Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has held talks with Fenerbahce and could continue his career in Turkey with a significant salary cut, Bild reported.
Ozil is currently entering the last six months of his contract with Arsenal, under which he receives 350,000 pounds a week. The departure of Mesut seems unlikely, but next week the 32 year old German will be free to sign a preliminary contract with any club.
According to Bild, Fenerbahce, which has already sent a special delegation to London for talks with Ozil, will try to take advantage of this. The Turkish club hopes to attract him after the end of the season and pay him 150,000 pounds a week.
Ozil is fifth most expensive purchase in Arsenal history. In 2013 Arsenal paid 50 million euro to Real Madrid. He has publicly butted heads with the club on a number of occasions in the past few years and Mikel Arteta removed him from the official squad list for season 2020-21.
